Nervos ran a hackathon to build the plumbing for fast on-chain payments. I read all sixty-four entries in the code and picked winners, in plain terms, before Monday’s official results, plus what the field quietly says about CKB.

My winners: Clasp (wallets), fiber-forge (dev tools), fiber-paid-http (merchants and liquidity). Best of the three, and my overall pick: fiber-forge. Reasoning below. Nervos, the network behind CKB, ran a two-week hackathon this summer to build the plumbing for Fiber, its fast-payments layer. If none of that means anything to you: Fiber is basically an express lane for sending money on-chain, a cousin of Bitcoin’s Lightning. Dull-sounding, I know. It is also the kind of thing that decides whether crypto payments ever get as easy as tapping a card, so I paid attention. Sixty-five teams, ten prizes, three categories, and one overall winner pulled from the three category winners. I didn’t skim the pitches. I went through all sixty-five repositories, the actual code and the commit history, and pulled the submissions straight off the blockchain. It ate a weekend. By the tenth near-identical "will my payment go through?" tool I’d stopped taking notes and started sighing. More on that in a second. First, the thing worth saying before Monday buries it under a winners list. This hackathon is a small mirror of CKB itself. Most of the field is the ecosystem doing what it always does well: sharp tools for the people already here. The handful that actually got me interested were the ones building for someone outside, someone with no reason to care about CKB yet. That gap is the real story, and it is still true next week no matter who wins. One disclosure. My own team entered, with a project called Trickle.
