Fiber Network, August 2026: A Practical Guide

By Telmo ·

Nodes are on mainnet. Apps, Lightning swaps and merchant checkout are not. Here is what you can actually build and use today.

Until 2025, Nervos was mostly discussed as a flexible proof-of-work blockchain with a Cell Model that gives developers unusual freedom. In 2026 the community's centre of gravity has moved. The practical question is no longer "what is Nervos?" but "what can I do with Fiber right now?" The short answer, and the thesis of this guide: Fiber has nodes on mainnet, but almost everything an end user touches (apps, Lightning swaps, merchant checkout) is still on testnet. That boundary is the central fact here, not a footnote. Where Fiber actually is, right now Reference node (mainnet). Fiber Network Node (FNN) 0.9.0 can be installed for mainnet use; the repository still advises caution while the implementation keeps evolving. Fiber Studio 1.1.0 (testnet). Introduces Fiber-to-Lightning atomic swaps through the Cross-Chain Hub (CCH). FiberFlow merchants (testnet). Self-hosted checkout, invoices, webhooks and a dashboard, with a public demo. AI payments (prototype). Tools and demos exist, but there is no public evidence of recurring autonomous-agent payment traffic. Ecosystem infrastructure (emerging). July's "Gone in 60ms" hackathon produced 66 final infrastructure projects. So Fiber is not finished. FNN 0.9.0 installs on mainnet and has a defined channel lifecycle. There are merchant demos, browser tutorials, an infrastructure hackathon, and Fiber Studio 1.1.0, which on 18 August exposed atomic swaps with Bitcoin Lightning through the Cross-Chain Hub. But there is no established public UDT liquidity on mainnet, no demonstrated recurring AI-agent payment activity, and the reference repository explicitly asks you to proceed carefully. What Fiber is Fiber Network is a peer-to-peer payment and swap network built on Nervos CKB, in the spirit of Bitcoin's Lightning Network. It moves repeated transfers off-chain while relying on CKB layer 1 for settlement and enforcement. A simple analogy: CKB is the vault. Fiber is the debit card connected to that vault. You use the card for…
