Quantum-Ready Blockchains Compared, Part 5: The Scorecard

Part 5 of a 5-part series comparing how 9 blockchains are preparing for quantum computers

Disclosure: I hold CKB. This series presents information, not recommendations, and nothing in it is investment advice. Previously: Parts 2 to 4 went chain by chain: QRL, born quantum-safe; Algorand, Nervos, Aptos and Sui, built to swap; and Ethereum, the XRP Ledger, Solana and Cardano, retrofitting, with Bitcoin as the yardstick. This final part puts them side by side. Four parts ago, this series set out to answer a simple question: which blockchains are actually ready for quantum computers? The honest answer turns out to be a list of partial answers. Every chain is ready in some respects and not in others, and the respects differ from chain to chain. So this part does not crown a winner. It puts all ten chains on the same ladder and the same grid, lists each one's advantages and disadvantages in one place, looks at how readiness compares with market value, and ends with a practical list of signals worth watching. The short version: no chain has everything, the leaders are small, and the most important missing piece everywhere is not cryptography but a deadline. The ladder Start with the narrowest question, the first of Part 1's five tests: can an ordinary holder protect their own coins today? The ladder splits cleanly into thirds. At the top, three chains have shipped. QRL's current chain is quantum-safe by default. Algorand has native quantum-safe accounts in its leading wallet. Nervos has a quantum-safe lock on its main network with one specialist wallet. Solana technically reaches the same rung as Nervos, but only through a separate, single-use vault program, so it sits there with an asterisk. In the middle, three are testing. Aptos has finished, merged code that is switched off on its main network. Sui is on its development network with a 2027 target. QRL 2.0, QRL's successor chain, is on its second test network. At the bottom, four are at the proposal stage : Ethereum, the XRP Ledger, Cardano and Bitcoin. Between them they are worth more than $2 trillion. The…
